The Process of Marriage Licenses for Non-Floridians
Marriage licenses are a significant wedding component. Without it, a couple is not legally married. Marriage licenses are highly specialized documents that are specific to the city and town in which the wedding ceremony will take place. Destination weddings are becoming a big trend today. Couples that live in cold, winter states, strongly desire to have their weddings in warm, sunny states. Florida is a very popular destination for winter birds because we offer beautiful beaches and sunshine weather. Getting married in another state varies a little differently than getting married in your home state. This short article will provide helpful information for couples traveling from other states on how to obtain their marriage license.
Non-Florida Residents
Many couples from other states hoping to get married in Florida wonder whether or not their Florida marriage license will be valid in their home state. In fact, a couple married in any U.S. state will be viewed a legally married couple. To get married in Florida, nonresidents are required to visit their nearest clerk of the circuit court office to receive their marriage license. Florida’s standard fee is $93.50. To receive a marriage license, U.S citizens must provide their social security numbers and a valid driver’s license or state identification card. To get married in the state of Florida, you are not required to be a resident. If either the bride or the groom has ever been married, divorced or widowed, both the date of the divorce or date of the spouse’s death must be indicated. The marriage license does not need to be issued in the county that the ceremony will take place in, and will be valid for up to 60 days.
Florida residents have a 3-day waiting period and must have taken a state-sanctioned marriage preparation course within the last year in order to obtain a license. However, there are two exceptions to the 3-day waiting period. The first exception is if the couple is from out of state and are able to provide proof of photo identification during time of application Secondly, the couple must be able to provide pre-marital course completion certificate during time of application.
For international travelers booking a destination wedding in Florida, the process slightly differs. The couple is required to provide their passports, naturalization, and immigration numbers. In addition, they must both provide a valid passport photo. If either the bride or the groom is from a foreign country, they are required to provide alien registration, or other documents that obtain the alien registration number.
Now that you have obtained your Florida marriage license, you are officially ready to have your sunshine wedding!
