While many people enjoy capturing the special moment of their loved ones making the ultimate commitment to love each other endlessly for the rest of their lives, a lot of couples are now asking that their friends and family refrain from using their cellular devices during the ceremony. This is a new trend in modern weddings called an “Unplugged Wedding”. While it may seem unfair and unnecessary to not be able to use your phones there are many reasons why that can make the couples day memorable and yours as well.
One of the reasons couples ask for no technology is because it can ruin the photographer’s photos. The photographers go out of their ways to take as many memorable shots for the bride and groom to look at after their wedding day and a guest can ruin it by jumping in front of the shot or having the couple get washed out all together from the flash of the cameras. Many photographers have commented on the facts that they notice how many people have their faces hidden behind a camera rather than actually being involved and it breaks their hearts. The bride and groom want the guest to be enjoying their wedding first hand not behind a screen. Another thing that happens often with technology is that the bride and groom sometimes have their “first looks” ruined because of friends and family posting pictures of the bride and groom on social media. It would be better to refrain from posting those pictures until after the ceremony ends.
In the end, nobody is asking for the guest to completely refrain from taking pictures or using their cellphones at all during the wedding. A lot of couples want their guest to of course capture the moments and post pictures but that would be during the reception and a lot of couples give out a hashtag to go with the wedding. If you take a picture of the couple just keep in mind that it’s like someone taking a picture of you off guard and just posting it. Send it to them and have them pick the picture to post. Moral of the story is during the ceremony just relax and enjoy the experience of the couple getting married and then share your experience of the fun at the reception. That way you can have fun, the photographers get the pictures they need, and the couple doesn’t feel overwhelmed with a bunch of pictures being taken of them. In the end they will have experienced the beautiful moment with you and had the pictures to last them a lifetime.
